“Feel the Power of the Dork Side”: April 28-29, 2017 Maitland Civic Center - Door opens at 7 pm
By day Dr. Peter Ludovice does research and teaches chemical engineering and computational chemistry at Georgia Tech, and by night he performs as a stand-up comedian. He have been an ACS member for over 30 years, and his research activities include the simulation of synthetic and biological macromolecules, and the use of humor to enhance technical education, innovation and communication. He will be in Orlando speaking about his latest NSF project on using humor in the engineering classroom on April 28 & 29 at the National meeting of the Association of Applied and Therapeutic Humor. While he is in Orlando, he will be performing his one-man show “Feel the Power of the Dork Side” at the Maitland Civic Center near Orlando on the evenings or April 28th & 29th. It is a funny & educational look at science & technology and their practitioners suitable for chemical engineers and those who are not technically inclined (normal people). Information can be found at www.drpetecomedy.com/dorkside. I have also attached additional information to this email. Click here.

The ACS-Orlando Section again sponsored the US National Chemistry Olympiad. Each year, the Orlando section invite high school chemistry faculty to nominate high performing chemistry students to participate in the Chemistry Olympiad. Letters are sent to chemistry faculty in early January. High schools that participated included Edgewood Junior/Senior in Merritt Island, Hagerty High School in Oviedo, Seminole High School in Sanford, Lake Highland Prep in Orlando, Stanford Online High School, Lake Mary High School in Lake Mary, and Canterbury High School in Fort Myers. . We’d like the number of testers to be even bigger for 2017.
